Default 1 ohm

Guys, I have a few questions on building my new system. Is it pretty safe to run the sub at 1 ohm for everyday pounding? I have CV Stroker 12" 2 ohm DVC, rated at 1000w. I'm planning to use 1200w mono amp at 1 ohm to push it. I'm also giving 60w rms to the speakers, is it good enough to overcome 1000w sub? Also I'm running two batteries and will I need Alternator upgrade on 93 LS?
Thanks in advance.

if your amp is rated to do 1ohm, then you'll be okay. Either turn down the gain or wire the sub in series to get a 4ohm load. That way, you wont be overpowering the speakers as much (i'm assuming you have regular coaxials).

My speakers are rated only at 50w. Can I parrallel two speakers to drop impedance on the speakers to push 100w? Will the speakers handle the 100w and which speakers do I run parrallel together? Thanks.

If your amp is capable of 1 ohm loads then you shouldn't have a problem. I'm assuming that the amp is putting out 1200w at 1 ohm. If so, that 200 extra watts shouldn't hurt either unless you're stressing the system really hard.

Yes, you can wire another speaker to lower the impedance but the output will still be halved giving you only 50w for each of the 2 speakers. If you want 100w to go to just one speaker, you'll need a speaker with a lower ohm rating. So if a 4 ohm speaker makes your amp put out 50w, then a 2 ohm speaker would probably make your amp put out around 70-80w.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the answers. One last question is do I need to upgrade the alternator? The sub amp will draw 130 amp max. I'm not sure about the speakers amp, it's only 240/4 amp. I'm running two batteries with 0 Ga power wire. Thanks again for the imputs.
