Default DIY tv headrest install

Yep, that's right. Cut into that good ol' Lexus Leather and install a tv in there. I ordered 2 7"SAVV monitors online. They are good quality, same manufacture as the Alpine screens. When I got them in, I thought...hmmm shouldve went with 6.5". Too late. Well lets see the step by step...

Here's the headrest...notice the seams aren't exactly the same so don't get frustrated when you can't line it up to match. It doesn't match from the factory.

Remove the headrest cover. There is a long plastic clip sewn on one side on the bottom of the headrest you have to slide forward and it will release. Get yourself an adjustable utility knife. Mark your cuts and cut away.

Here are the monitors. In the box...

Out of the box

After cutting your foam and test fitting the frame. Remove the frame and slide the cover back on. You have to cut an "X" into the headrest leather. Becareful not to cut too much. I then slid the frame into the foam through the cuts.

Final product, stretch the leather into the frame. snap the tv into the frame

There's 5 wires for these tv's, Video, Left audio, Right audio, ground, power. Pretty easy to hook up. I have to cut holes in the seats to run the wires. I'll post more when I get to it. Like I said earlier, maybe a 6.5" is better but I wanted the 7" wide....

www.savv.com is where I found the specs and located a dealer close to me. I ordered mine from Houston and had it shipped to me. $290 ea for the tv's which isn't bad considering the quality. More to come....

How did you attach the frame to the headrest? Glue? I can't imagine that it's just pressed in, doesn't seem like it would hold under vibration.

There's actually two frames. The first frame goes into the foam (through the leather cover), The second frame goes into the first frame and has screws. There's a metal plate in the headrest that the second frame "sandwiches" between the first frame and the metal.

The tv is made in Korea I believe.

Saw these guys at the CES also. Quailty of the screen wasnt that bad.
http://www.valormultimedia.com/

But i believe they are fairly new to the mobile entertainment industry. (probabaly 2 years or so)
Their other company were manufacturing cellphone accessories (use to buy from them 6-7 years ago)

But the screens are likely to be manufactured in china.

just a thought, why not just buy headrests that have monitors already installed in them?

Ya, Valor has been around for a while. There are only a few TRUE mobile video factories out there....most in China/Taiwan and Korea.

Valor makes a lot of products for other companies....so the quality isn't bad.

I don't like the way the frames stick out over the stitching. I ended up using my rear headrests to fit 7" monitors perfectly as others have suggested. I also put the "frame" underneath and used the friction fit of the monitor against the frame to secure it in the headrest. I'll have pics up a bit later...it doesn't look the best, but for 20 minutes per headrest, it isn't bad.

The Savv monitors have 2 frames. I thought about doing the underneath trick but 2 frames would look like poop. I've got a real good friend that does upholstery thats going to redo the headrest for material for me to change the seams.

Here's a pic of my install as promised...the only thing I don't like about my install is at the bottom, the way it sticks out....the corners are a bit too "hard" for me.

Looks good Tranman. I don't think it looks bad at all.
