How to replace Pioneer 2 ohm speakers in LS/400?
Hello - I have recently aquired a '96 LS400 Mark III.
The system is a Pioneer one - I have removed the head unit and it clearly states Pioneer and a model number of KEX-8256ZT.
I followed the excellent instructions on the forum to remove a front speaker to see what was there and I find it's a Pioneer 4" but it has two surprising features
1) The impedance is 2 ohms
2) It has 4 wires connected - I think this must mean a crossover is actually installed in the speaker itself (there is a small cylindrical object there) and then two wires presumably go to the tweeter.
I was considering replacing the setup as others have done, probably with components in the front and two-way in the rear, probably all 4".
Questions I have are:-
1) If I put 4 ohm speakers in I appreciate the load on the amp will be lessened, but does this mean the volume will drop? Is it possible to buy 2 ohm speakers?
2) Do you think the 2 of the 4 wires are as I suspect going to the tweeter? I could take off the door panel again and trace the wire but wondered if anyone out there knows for sure?
3) I have seen many recommendations for aftermarket speakers including Alpine SPX 107R - would these make a significant difference without changing the head unit or sub?
ALl help and advice gratefully received!
