Have an idea for gs4 stock sub replacement
I have already upgraded the headunit, amp and speakers (thanks to LexTPOP for providing the baffle boards for the speakers. If anybody needs a set for 2gen GS be sure to PM him or search on ebay). I'm thinking of ways to tackle the sub replacement. But first, I don't want a box in the trunk (stock look as much as possible) and second I don't want to cut or drill into the car either. So I've come up with this idea. Instead of using a 10" sub, I'll use a 8 inch sub. I'll then fabricate a baffle board (1/2 or 3/4" thick) to mount to the stock holes on the rear deck. Behind the board will be a sealed enclosure for the sub. So basically it's just a box with an oversize top. Hopefully the box section will drop right into the stock opening. This way I'll get the tight bass of a sealed box with a free air type mounting.
Also from my past experience, most quality 8" subwoofers are just as potent as it's 10" bigger brother so clean, tight bass shouldn't be a problem with a 8". About 150w RMS is going to it.
