Default Here's what i want to do...is this a good idea?

I got a 95gs300 That's in some desprate need of bass.

Heres my plan. I'm going to put in a alpine cda-9835 so thats what i have for a deck. Then i I want to get 1 12" sub, competition or whatever (PLease make suggestions) PRice range up to 300$. Also an amp. Right now from my old car i have 2 12" pioneer premiers, and a 2 channel audiobahn amp 840x1 at 2 ohms or 420x2 layin around. I might use that amp for my new sub but the premiers i dont need anymore....if your intrested PM me.

If you have another set up proposal so i still have trunk space 1 or 2 sub, let me know. MY MAIN FOCUS IS SOUND QUALITY!!!!

I'm thinkin of making the box (for one sub) so it fits on the left side of my trunk at an angle so its pointed up toward the hole where the stock sub sits. That way i still got the spare and some trunk space. Do you guys think this would work well??

Alpine Type X or MTX Thunder 9500 any good??

The man wants bass

Both those subs are sick. I have the Thunder5500 and I love it. Ive heard alot of good things about the Type X too but they're pretty pricey. Alpine Type R would be a good choice

Yea, i doubt a free air will give me what i'm in need of...BASS

i used to have 2 newer type Rs in my accord and they kinda sucked. Although they were in a ported subzero box (neither tuned to correct frequency) nor they were supposed to be in a ported box. I heard em sound good in a sealed box but i don't think that will give me enough bass with one sub

if SQ is important i would suggest a 10" instead of a 12. www.sounddomain.com has Image dynamics ID MAX 10" for $313 shipped ( http://www.cardomain.com/item/IDSIDMAX10V3D4 ). or they have a KILLER sale right now on orion subs http://www.cardomain.com/shoplist~b~Orion~t~Subwoofers

I will be doing a similar set-up as you on my '95 SC400. I too will be putting in an Alpine CDA-9835 (with a nice dash modification). My fronts will be Kicker SS65's and no speakers in the rear. I will be running two 12" Diamond Audio Mac Daddys (4 ohm SVC) off of a 1000 watt Xtant amp. I will be using an Xtant A4004 for my front stage. My 'enclosure' will be sealed and in the form of a fibreglass tub in the hweel well. Not sure if I'll be inverting the subs or not.

I'll post some pics on here as I go.

I would probably recommend the two Type R's in a ported enclosure built to spec if you want lots of bass for a decent price. Also, you will only need to run one large amp as opposed to two or a super-humungous amp If you need help on enclosure design let me know as I have built at least 50 boxes for Type R's alone. Hehe...

Some work I have done...

Check out my pics in the Member Gallery. I built a sealed box that sits in a left-oriented position under the deck, and the sub is mounted in a corner of the box so it sits right under the stock hole. Very similar to what yuou are talking about. Works great for SQ.

if u get a good 10" it will hit as deep as 12s... but u willl never get a 12 to hit as accurate as a 10. im telling you get image dynamic IDMAX. or RE XXX but i think thats a lil more.

I wouldn't focus on size alone (insert bad joke here).
Matters more whether you want to mount one or two woofers, and what enclosure, etc. Two 10's can work nicely. I have one 12, but it has 2" excursion. If you are going to mount a woofer under the stock hole, I'd go with one good 12" that can move some air. If you want a really good suggestion for this, go with JL 12W6V2.

Good amps (without going crazy like Brax and McIntosh) are Zapco, Helix, JLAudio, Orion Xtreme, and some others. You can check them out on www.woofersetc.com.
