ECLIPSE 5435 vs PIONEER AVIC-D1
Help CL Family,
I am debating on two aftermarket NAV/DVD models. I know that I want a double din. 1st choice is the Eclipse 5435...2nd is the Pioneer AVIC-D1 or D2. Anyone who already has these models, please give some feedback. (likes/dislikes; problems) Any replies are appreciated.

it depends on what your main goals are for the unit. a little more explanation would help to give you better information.
if you want to watch DVDs while you drive...don't go pioneer.
I haven't messed with pioneer's navi so i don't know the ins/outs of it, but i've been using eclipse headunits for many many years and own an AVN2454 at the moment (going to trade up to the AVN6600 when it comes out). The navi is great, movie picture is great.
why are you considering the 5435 instead of the 5500? just getting a better deal? The navi upgrade should be a nice addition to the 5500

Can the ECLIPSE have Nav and movie playing at the same time?? Pioneer can...but need a separate DVD player. Can the ECLIPSE change destinations without stopping the car??
I think I like the features of the 5435 better.

the way the Z1 plays dvds will most likely void the warranty
Yes the eclipse unit will change directions on the fly, it also has detour routes. You can add a seperate DVD player so that rear passengers can watch a DVD while you have navi. if you go for the AVN5495 or AVN6600 you will not have to add the seperate DVD player because both of those units have a DVD drive as their main drive.

I have the D1 and I prefer the menus on the Pioneer unit. You can always add a seperate dvd player to the D1 if u really wanted to watch DVD's. I have a PS2 and got the navi hacked so I can play games and watch movies on the go.
Can't realy go wrong with both units but I would wait a little for the Z1 to come out. That thing looks insane.

hmmmmm, i dunno about that. i'll give it a shot. not saying that it's false, but the unit uses the Disc to give the prompts.
also I don't think that the 5435 will play avi files from a burned DVD, I can call the eclipse tech guys tomorrow and ask cause I'm curious for myself.

My install guy could do it but he said it will void the warranty, I guess he have to rewire the parking brake or something...
