Default Aftermarket NAV with stock non nav ML

I didn't know until after I bought it that the non-nav ML was rare. I have a 2001 GS430 and have gotten the idea of navigation stuck in my head. I have explored alot of aftermarket HU's and don't really like the look of a flip out screen. Does anyone have advice or experience swapping out the headunit of a non-nav ML to aftermarket? I don't have the budget or the desire to replace the whole system. I am open to the idea of a carputer for nav/dvd/mp3 functions, but I don't have the time right now to learn all that I think is required for that. I would love to find an all inclusive car PC package that I could assemble and install, but have yet to find that.

Any ideas?
