Default I have a JL 1000/1 any suggested sub setups??

So I bought a JL 1000/1 and I'm running it to two Infinity Perfect 10.1 subs. The subs are rated at 350 watts RMS with a max of 700 watts.

As most of you know, the amp does 1000 watts continuously and is giving these subs 50% more than the power they are rated at RMS with a max of 2000 watts. I THOUGHT this would be a good match but so far, I've pushed the subs decently hard and at high volumes the cones are bottoming out in the baskets (at least I think that's what's happening)... Usually, I'm pretty confident in knowing what speaker to match with what amp but 1000 watts rms is a totally different ball game.

Should I go with one 12w6 instead? What do you guys/gals suggest?

2 12W6v2 or 1 12W7

the 1000/1 will give 1000 watts continuously anywhere from 1.5-4 ohms all day long. JL doesn't peak their amps, what is stated is what you get.

Do it, the Perfects are REALLY good subs.
I would ease off on the gain and bass boost however, you'll have a lot of headroom.
It should pound.

Any specific settings you can recommend? Frequency cut off, gain, etc...

Thanks.

The JL's that "88supramki" suggested are an excellent choice, although they are very pricey.

I'd suggest (2) 12" Type R, There rated at 500 WRMS each, you can get two for less that one JL 12W7. But, Having all the same equipment would look sweater IMO.. Have you upgraded your battery??

Get a single 12w7 and be done. You will enjoy the sound and never have to worry about blowing it unless you really distort it. I have the 500/1 with a 10w7 and couldn't be happier.

Unless you have some testing equipment (RTA and a DVM), you will have to set it by ear. Just be careful and and watch for signs of stress.

You don't really need to buy new subs, but it seems every member is suggesting JL Audio subs (which are great), but there are other subs that are just as good or even better for the money: Image Dynamics IDmax, Resonant Engineering SX series, Diamond Audio D9, or even the, Boston Acoustics SPG555.

Again, there's nothing wrong with the perfects, I installed many of them powered by more then enough power and I've never really had any problems with them, only in some circumstances where the user was out of there mind and blasted them 24/7, with all the gains and adjustments turned way up.

If you can afford it go with a 12w7. I have a 12w7 with 1000/1 and I love it. Just make sure you dynamat you rear deck really good, The box for the 12w7 will be heavy though since it is 1.5 inches thick. The sub is a monster.

sorry the pic below is a little dark.
