Yeah, and those old USA VLX-400's - they used to demonstrate how much power they could make by burning holes through aluminum cans at the Daytona Beach spring break nationals. They would crank up them up and then burn holes right through those cans.
While that DD looks pretty bad ***, it lacks the beauty that the true old school amps had.
While US Amps made the most badassed amps at the time, PPI's art series and ProArt's pretty much dominated the SQ side of things...
In the 90s the winning combo was JL Subs, PPI Amps, Alpine Head Units, MB Quart Mids and Highs, and Audio Control or Phoenix gold x-overs and EQ's...

Wow! I got into cars and car audio in the late 80s early 90s along with all my friends. All these names bring back so many memories. I had the PPI Art series 404 in my first car (I so wanted to get the optional water cooling system for the amp... don't know why, it ran fine without it). Phoenix Gold, Hifonics, soundstream, orion (what my friend with show system used), Rockford. When Kicker first came out with the solobarics, everyone was using a cheater amp to send insane amounts of power to a pair of them. Ahh the good old days when dad paid the plastic bills.
