The Hack for an ES350
Hi,
I am interested in information about "The Hack" (the one for the Nav/DVD) for an 07 ES350. Has anyone done this or know how to do it? It does not appear to be the same as the GS or IS.
Thank you very much in advance.

I tried to do this today on my ES350 when I had the VAIStech SLI installed. It didn't work and the backup camera was disabled instead. I don't know if the installer cut the wrong wire or not. He tried to follow the procedures for the IS. Anyone have any info on this? I need to go back there on Wednesday to have it fixed.

I've figured out the wiring and I've found that the ES350 has a different design, so the standard NAV hack will not work. Rats!
I've got the wiring and disassembly instructions from http://techinfo.toyota.com/ and took my ES350 apart. I looks really scary but it is actually easy.
Anyway, the speed sensor to the display unit is light blue, and the speed sensor from the display unit to the Nav unit is orange. Cutting the speed wire to the display and routing it directly into the Nav (and cutting the display-to-Nav speed wire) should work, but alas it does not.
Leaving the blue speed wire disconnected from both the display and the Nav allows all the speed-dependant functions to work even if you're moving (expected). The jumping Nav screen is also present (expected) because the Nav needs the speed input to correct the GPS. So far, so good.
But connecting the speed wire directly into the Nav not only corrects the jumping Nav screen (expected), but disallows the speed-dependant functions (unexpected). It's as if no changes were made at all and the entire unit operates as if it were stock.
So where does that leave us? We can disconnect the speed lockouts for all the display functions, but only when the NAV speed update is locked out as well. Just cut the light blue speed sensor wire and run the two ends to a switch that you mount wherever you'd like. Activate the switch when you need to dial from your phonebook or find a location while driving. As soon as you've dialed in or set the route, disable the switch override to return to the stock function. Your call and route selections will still function.
That's not the solution we'd all like to see, but that looks like the best we can do for now. I'll post my switch install photos in a few weeks when I make the mod myself.
