Default 98 GS400 Factory amp location?

I LOVE this car! Picked it up a month ago and can't stop driving it! :-) Quick question, where is the factory amp located in this car? The factory system has a 6 disk CD changer, a sub in the back, but doesn't say "Nakamichi" but "Premium Sound System". Don't know if that makes a difference or not but was wondering where the amp (if the stock setup even has one) is located. I would like to see if it was possible to add an additional subwoofer/amp to the existing setup.

Thanks for your help!

Thumbs up

cfuller74,

When you open your trunk, open the false floor where your spare tire is and look on the right hand side, you will notice an amp in the cubby hole.

That is the NAV ECU....

The stock Pioneer Amp is located behind the glove box.

Dang,
I was hoping it was in the trunk. :-( So if it's behind the glove box do I get to it via the passenger kickpanel?

Thanks for the clarification!

Sorry, but my car does not have NAV and it is located in the right side cubby hole, unless you have NAV then I could be wrong. I know for a fact that this is my amp.

You must have the Nakamichi stereo... he mentioned that his deck did not say Nakamichi, so he has the Pioneer.. and the Pioneer amp is behind the glove box.

Its ok.. i was talking from the point of view of my car anyway... so if he doesnt have NAV, then nothing will be in that cubby hole in the trunk I have NAV, so my NAV ECU is there... and the Pioneer amp is behind the glove box.. kinda makes things a PITA, but im planning some audio upgrades.. so maybe ill make a splice harness...

And to answer the main questions, Pioneer amp, behind the glove box, you need to remove the glove box (very easy)... and its a small box, on the right side, it'll have a label on it

RTCamaroSS,

No worries, if I would had paid attention to what I reading I would have cought that he didn't have the Nakamichi system but the Premium sound system.

Thanks for catching it, I wouldn't like to lead some one in the wrong direction.

I have everything to upgrade my system, but I am just waiting to figure out how I am going to mount it after I install my Air Runners. Decisions ..... Decisions

Cheers,

No. You have to remove the glovebox. Which is actually VERY simple.

See the first 5 pictures here:

Great pics AZ-GS300. I have a question for you, on the 4th picture, what is that. I looked at my setup and I don't have both cables connected. I only see one. Thanks

To be honest, I don't know. Although since it has it's own seperate cover to be able to access it quickly, I'm going to guess it's a diagnostic port for something. Probably the climate control system. But that's just a guess.
