If I replace only the speakers, will my '01 RX300's stereo sound better?
It's the standard stereo with navigation.
(assuming I do it myself, with a budget of $400 to $425 for a couple pairs of
Infinity Kappas 60.7)

Sarah,
Check out the resistance of your OEM speakers before you go out and buy fresh sets of the Infinity Kappa speakers. In the GS, the pioneer speakers were 2ohm and that helped the amp run a little hotter but produced great (for what it was) sound. I think if you have 2ohm speakers and put in 4ohm aftermarket speakers the sound could get worse.
If you have 4 ohm and you swap for 4 ohm - yeah- should sound better.

The biggest difference will probably in the upper mid and highs if you are not planning on adding an aftermarket amp.
BTW, 400-450 should be plenty for the kappa's AND installation.
