There are a lot of companies out there making a lot of amps. When I owned car audio stores I had to go out and find the amp that was going to make me and my customers happy. I must have looked for weeks before finally having a "brand" for my store.
Ample was the needle in the haystack that no one in town had picked up on. The first time I heard them I was hooked. These amps are true rock and roll amps. They are quick and punchy. They have good headroom and are very sharp on their sound.
Below is a picture and also a high res version on the link of the inside of Ample's A226 amp. This was the bread and butter amp. It was perfect for most anything you wanted to run it on. 2 channels @ 130 WRMS @ 4 ohm and 2 channels @ 260 WRMS @ 2 ohm. Bridged into 4 ohm @ 520 WRMS.
Reviewing the picture, the first thing you notice is the nice beefy torrid. Ample has equipped this amp with a nice power supply that keeps up with the demand. Also wire wound resistors in the power supply for accuracy and power handling. There are also two oversized military grade caps.
Next you will notice the large outputs. Ample has stuck some beefy outputs in this amp and oversized wire wound resistors for power handling and accuracy.
Note the big copper buss bars. The 4 on the top of the picture are the SPEAKER outputs, the bottom one's are the power and ground inputs.
I sold 724 Ample A-226's at my store before 9-11 and only 3 amps came back! You can't buy that kind of dependability in amps these days. The three that came back were bridged into 2 ohm mono, against Ample's wishes. The price point on these amps was what really brought you to love them. For all this goodness with the beefy outputs, big power supply, buss bars, and great punchy rock and roll sound with 520 WRMS............ the A226 had a retail of only $249.95 with most selling them under $199!!
The A240 was the big daddy, which was the 800 watt version, but most people agreed that the A226 was nearly too much already so that became the legend.
.............and that folks, is why I love Ample Audio amps. I have two A226 amps that I am going to install and put against my A300 and A600 from PPI just for kicks. I already know the Amples will be more punchy.
