Default Key ROM replacement

Has anyone replaced the key ROM that is needed when you purchase replacement keys for earlier ('92-'94, I think) SCs? I did a search and found a few posts from people who needed to do it, but none from anyone who actually did the install. I've had my new keys for a while now and would like to install the new ROM to get the remote capabilities back, but would like to hear of some experiences before I try it....how difficult is it? Is it a simple plug and play? Is the ROM socketed or is any soldering required? Any info. would be appreciated!

Thanks,

If you have the keys and the matching ROM it is simple plug and play. The procedure is clearly listed in the factory service manual.

933005spd...thanks for the info. I have a service manual on order, so I'll take a look.

Steveo...I got my keys and ROM from Sewell Lexus during one of their group buys. Not cheap, but worth it if you want the OEM remote functionality.

Thanks for the info, Uga! I'll have to check them out. Was it as easy an install as they say it is?

I haven't done the install, yet, but I just received my factory service manual CD and it looks very straight forward. Just pull the rear seat, remove the trim panel covering the ECU, remove the piece on the ECU that covers up the hole where the ROM is accessed, pull the old ROM using needle-nose pliers, install the new ROM, then test it out. I'll be trying it out this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes!
