Default ES 350 Subwoofer ML System

I have only had this puppy for about a week but I have noticed that the sub can easily bottom out on the ML system. All it takes is about half volume and some slightly bass heavy tracks. One of my troubleshooting steps is to replace the 8" sub with a high quality one, Pyle, Kicker or equivalent, something that can take some power and has a huge magnet assembly. I could have Lexus replace it but I have read elsewhere in these forums that this is a common problem
So the question is how does one take the metal grill off the rear deck to get to the sub? I have crawled into the trunk & I see no obvious retainers for this piece. Anyone have any experience?

it would be better to install an aftermarket amp and sub. the mark levinson sub is 16 ohms and there are not any 16 ohm aftermarket subs . so you could buy the best aftermarket sub in the world and it wouldnt play with the mark levinson amp. there is a right and left chaneel wires to tap going to the mark levinson amp which can provide the signal for an aftermarket subamp.

Thanks for the info. I had a hunch it was not 4 ohms but 16? Who would design such an off the wall impedance?
BTW, how did you come by this info? I did not see any specs on the ML/Lexus website.

Hertz has some really good subs for good prices if u can find them
http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/default_en.htm

they are entering the speaker market so prices right now are excellent

their main company Elettromedia is the one that also makes Audison amps
u cant go wrong with this company

or you could go with focal subs
11"

the speaker impedence is mentioned in the all models of lexus service manuals when it tells the technician what ohm rating he should find when testing the speakers. the es350 pioneer system has 4 ohm door and 2 ohm sub. but mark levinson is 8 ohm door and 16 ohm sub. i just checked the es350 service manual and it doesn't even show a mark levinson option in the section on terminals for the audio system but i am sure if you have a mark levinson amplifier the ohm rating of the speakers is the same as the rest of them 8 and 16.
