Default Please help me with the ohms on this JLw6v2

This is a jl audio w6 dvc. I'm not familiar with how dvc's work, but I need it to be 4 ohms. Can you please tell me if this is correct. It is a dual 4 ohm sub.

After reviewing the JL site, it looks like one sub can only be wired in 2 or 8 ohm . . . I think. Your wiring matches the 2ohm setup.

I think this might be the reason why I'm getting distoration when I'm turning it up. Does anyone know how to make this a 4 ohm mono bridge?

Can't be done with a single subwoofer setup . . . you need to get two of them (provided that the other one is also a dual 4ohm sub). What type of amp do you have? Power ratings (i.e. 500w x 1 @ 4 ohm bridged)? Is there a subwoofer crossover on the amp or head unit?

You could always switch it to the 8 ohm wiring setup . . . you will have about half the power (150 watts), but the distortion will go down and the damping factor will increase (amps ability to control the speakers movements). I sure hope you have a crossover in your head unit or on the amp to keep the higher frequencies from the subwoofer . . .

Also, you may want to address your vehicles acoustics . . . place the subwoofer in various locations (point it towards the rear, point it towards the front, etc) to check which area sounds the best. Deep bass needs to travel a distance before it sounds good. Even check it with your windows up and then down . . . You will be surprised.

Thanks a lot for you help, but I wanted to get maximum power from my amp and sub. I think I will go with 2 10w3's.

Selling 12w6v2 .

did you leave it how it was when you bought it?

if so, they come ready at 4 ohms.

if not, the just series it up and parallel it to get 4 ohms

If you have two of those woofers you can do a 4ohm final load. But otherwise like the other guys said, you cant with only one.

yes you can with a W6. it's set up as a 4 ohm load straight out of the box.

you can play around with the settings if you wish, but straight from JL the final impedance is 4 ohms for a single woofer

I hooked up 2 ohms stereo, and it sounds great. When I had it hooked up mono bridge, it was cutting off and distorting. I'll call JL on Monday to confirm

Uh...no. It is a 4 ohm dual voice coil straight out of the box. You can NOT run this sub at 4 ohms. It can only be run at 2 or 8 ohms (parallel or series wiring). I would strongly suggest you KEEP THIS SUB as it is a great sub with lots of sonic potential. 300 watts is a little low to power this sub nicely - sell that and try an amp that will do 500 watts at 2 ohms mono (make sure the amp is stable at 2 ohms in mono). The JL 500/1 is perfect for this application.

Good luck!

but yes, as stated above keep the sub and get a 500/1. or if you want to do the W3v3's then still get the 500/1
