Gang - Well, this makes the third time this year that JL's postponed the release of the much-hyped W7. I just left my friend's shop & he said that it's backordered ( he ordered one of each of the three available sizes ). He told me that with even my "brother-in-law" prices, a single 12" will run close to $800!!:eek: D*** thing BETTER have the displacement of dual 12's for that cost!! Besides, I could pick up a Focal 33 WX 13" for that price & I KNOW those R solid woofers! Will keep everyone up to date when something new breaks - oops, bad term for a woofer!!

The W7 12" is coming out first, then the 10", then after that the 13.5" should be released around christmas time. A W7 12" retails for $800 so he is lying if he says he is giving you a discount. I hear a lot of people were disappointed with the W7 at IASCA finals. JL had them on display but not in a car. I think people need to hear this subwoofer in a car before they can talk trash about it.

So in other words, they were at IASCA looking pretty but not functional? Were they playing any tunes through it?

I think they had 2 working 13.5 w7's in a car, at db drag world finals.

rhart - Yep, if U'll look at one of my previous posts I'm in total agreement as to forming an opinion on a speaker in the automobile environment & not just the soundboard. BTW - I'm not trashing the W7, just JL for getting everyone's expectations & appetites ready for a "revolutionary" woofer & then postponing things numerious times! I'm one of this board's biggest advocates of JL products & in a way, I'm glad JL isn't gonna realese the W7 until it's ready. Look what happened when Kicker rushed the L7 into production - the first generation 7's wouldn't hold up structurally ( which is completely UNLIKE a Kicker woofer ). Understand that they've corrected the build problem now though. At least this delay will allow me to build some of the experimental boxes that I want to use to put the W7 thru it's paces. Dang thing's gotta be mounted into 1.5" thick MDF so I'll have to double up on the 3/4" MDF I have. My friend sent 2 of his installers to the JL required school & they said that JL didn't have any operational woofers there either - they were impressed with motor, though but think it's gonna be a wattage hog!! I understand that they did have the pair that itzloud mentioned at the dB Drag Finals. Maybe I understood about the pricing - Randy may have given me his MSRP but we've done too much business ( & I helped him build his 1988 USAC Champ SPL van ) together for him to lie to me about MY cost. Of course, he wants me to change out my stuff for all Kicker & he'll get me sponsored by them - don't worry Percy, I WON'T sell out!!:eek:

I must say that Kicker has improved a lot in my eyes for the last few years. L7 is a very good and loud sub. Its up there with all the big boys now.

Weird. There was a car on IASCA with 2 W7s in it. I even had some pictures somewhere! People still say they are nothing that special. IMO, it won't be better then current IDMAX.
