Anyone using NON FREE AIR SUB in their GS?
Just want to know if anyone is already using a NON FREE AIR SUB in their GS... I want to know how you like it. Does it sound good? How is the comparison between a FREE AIR sub and a NON FREE AIR sub? The reason I ask is because I already have a 10" Phoenix Gold Titanium Sub at the house already and I want to put it to some use. Can't you pretend to use the trunk of the car as the sealed enclosure? If anyone has some information please let me know. Thanks.

Well I have an Alchamy free air sub, no box. It sounds decent, and hits really hard, especially on rap songs. My friend has a box in his GS. He just took out the stock sub and left the hole. The sealed box deffinatelly hits much deeper, and does hit much better lows. I just don't like the fact that it takes up precious space in the trunk.

i'm talking about using a NON FREE AIR sub and installing it in the factory sub spot... no box, no nothing... using the whole trunk as the enclosure. how does that sound?

there a few out there. as someone found out (i dont remember who) dont buy a used on the net/ebay. back to subs. the kicker comp is a very nice sub and the most readily available. with the success of the small box sub, many manufacturers stopped going the free air route. i have 3 free-airs (Kicker comp not Comp VR) in my rear deck and 1k watts and it is incredible to say the least. one 10 will more than likely out perform the stock and do it right because it was designed specificly to not have a box. making a sub work out of its comfort zone will just lead you to buying another sub in a few months anyway. Good luck

SOOOOOOO much better to remove the stock sub and BUY or BUILD a box that you can aim up thru the woofer hole. Screw the free-air. You can get any sub you want - the only constraint is the amp power - and drop it right into a box. Check Sounddomain.com for woofer boxes. OBCON makes excellent ones. Call it a day and enjoy your music.
One level up, you can install a sub amp, run a LLC from the existing sub wires to the inputs, and wire up power using an amp wiring kit.
