Speakers cutting out at low volume

Hello, I have a 98 ES with the Nakamichi oem stereo. Just lately the sound stops coming out of the right speakers(front and back) or it is really light. I put the fader to the right and turn the volume up very high and it jumps on and then the the sound is good for a while and then it happens again. Any thought?

could be as simple as cleaning the stereo and the contacts. that would mean taking the unit out, opening it up, and blowing one of those bottles of electronics cleaners through it.
