Default Velodyne subs

I imagine that Percy knows this, but does anyone know the mounting depth of the 10" or 12" car audio sub. Also does anyone know the retail or street value on a brand new one? Has anyone used them in a free air enviroment? ported? sealed?
Thanks everyone.

reLEXin247,

For a rear mount (under deck/bottom mount) installation, the mounting depth would be 6.5 inches for the DF12sc and 6 inches for the DF10sc. If you top mount the sub (possible with DF10sc) then the mounting depth is 5 1/4 inches.

You're looking at around $1200 for a new one, and I wouldn't be surprised if a used one goes for that. Velodyne isn't distributing these anymore so NOBODY has them, thus increasing their demand. The only way you'll get them is to contact Velodyne directly (408-436-7270) and have one custom ordered/made for you. Don't even try Ebay...these were rare before and now they're much harder to come by!

I do believe one of the members on this board had a 10 inch vel for sale. Don't know if the sale went through.

Ported config? Haven't tried it. Sealed? Yep. Sounds awesome. A perfect 10 / A+ for sound quality. NONE BETTER. Infinite baffled? Yep. Tried that and currently have it set up as infinite baffle. A perfect 10 / A+ for sound. The nice thing about the Vel the controller box. You have a selection of sealed/ported or infinite baffle with a flip of a switch. Accounts for all of them. Don't try bandpass...it'll sound horrible and it's a waste of time for the Sound Quality guys.

If you have one of these, NOBODY can touch you in terms of sound quality/accuracy for a subwoofer. Well, nobody other than another Vel competitor...

retrodrive - Nope. I tried autophile some months ago to order and Peter said he didn't have any and wouldn't be getting any more. Haven't tried going to Vel direct as Percy recommends. Might be a group buy in the cards if Vel would do it.

Man, I would talk to Peter since he has his ways of getting to Velodine directly. Even if there is groupbuy I would go through his company since he is a good person to deal with.

Well guys I think I might have a source for a few Velodyne subs. I'm not sure how many they have, but they're all brand new. 10's and 12"s.. but the best part is the price. $540.00 each for the 10's and $600.00 each for the 12's.. I'll keep everyone posted for anymore info I get on these subs.

If you get this deal count me in for the 12. I will actually trade my beloved IDMAX for the Velo!

I really hope this deal goes through. I love the way those subs sound! GSNAV yeah this sub would be the first choice over any other subs I sugested. I consider that Velos are from everyones price range...for the given price I would get it over the IDQ withought any hesitation.

600 for the 12? Jump on it! That's almost as good as the price I paid back in '96. Had an inside source (he doesn't work there anymore) at a stereo shop. When I had the Alpine amp (MRVF400) I literally GAVE it to him (no charge or strings attached and the amp was a whopping 2 weeks old) when I upgraded to the McIntosh gear and he owed me so he cut me a deal on the DF12sc. 500 bucks.

Hopefully the deal will come through for everybody! With a few guys packing Vels, it makes me feel better. Now that's SQ!

Make sure that's with the controller box. A few years ago there was a Vel authorized dealer mentioning that they can sell the subs only for that price with no controller. Without the controller it's like any other sub, sounds good, but not Vel standards. I remembered this conversation back in '96 just after I bought mine.
