Default 1993 LS400 car audio setup *PIX*

Pioneer FH-P4200MP headunit (MP3 player and tape deck doubledin)
Rockford Fosgate Power T1682S (6x8 2way components)
DLS Classic CA31 (3-channel amplifier)
DLS Classic OA10 (10" free-air subwoofer)

Just got my dad's car back from www.innovativerides.com. The original Pioneer tapedeck died, and the only speaker working was on the passenger side. The factory amplified 8" subwoofer has been non-existent since 1993. There was also never a CD player in this thing (father didn't believe in CD's at the time he bought the car ).

Well he didn't want to lose any trunk room, but he definately wanted better sound. This is the end result and I am pretty impressed with what he got. What do you all think?

Definately not an SPL winner, but it had more than enough bass for daily driving.

Wow....very clean. I just bought a free-air 10" Kicker sub that I will be installing in the near future....but my setup won't be close to this.

you too, what is the RMS and max of the kicker 10 you got.
i am contemplating getting a free air to drop in the stock location or getting two tens in a box.
My alpine's 5th channel will be pushing out 150 watts RMS for the sub.

30-100 watts RMS. You'll probably rip it a new one with that power since free-air is much more efficient than sealed.

Usually with the authorized warranty it is about $400. You can find it online for about $300. I choose to go with the authorized warranty since I hate dealing with warranty issues if they ever come up.

180w RMS/360w MAX

and 2 tens in a box is a bad idea because the gas tank behind the leather seats will kill any sound you hope to get. Been there done that.

That's the power range. It's the Kicker Comp 03C84. Check it out here:
http://www.audioonlineoutlet.com/kickwoof.html (that's basically the only site left with info on this sub which was discontinued a while back. I got it cheaper than this shipped...PM me if you want to know where to get it).
So basically that is saying you don't want to give it less than 30 watts RMS or more than 100 watts RMS.

So, the answer to your question is 100 watts RMS

thanks man. i am looking for something that can match my 150RMS.
i am currently using the 150RMS to run two boston 10" in the trunk and it thumps nicely. but i don't know what their specs are and don't feel like taking them out of the box.
i need a free air sub that takes 150-200 RMS. that would sound nice. i think

People on CL seem to like Image Dynamics subwoofers for this application. I have no experience with that brand, however.

Can't go wrong with the DLS OA (Open Air) series of subwoofers.
