i currently have two Dual 12" Subs in a box in my trunk

not only is the thing heavy and take up the whole trunk and have blue tacky as hell neons, but it rattles like a **** an is a cheap best buy sub

i'm looking to put a 10", or possibly even a 12" if i cut a bigger hole out (if thats possible) in the stock space for the sub in the SC400


I have Alpine Type R Speakers all the way around and a JVC Head Unit i'm a replacing with an AVIC-D3 Pioneer when they come out in the spring...

i'm the type of guy that likes to get the best of the best all in one fell swoop

what is the BEST sub i can buy to put in that slot? i was going to get Type X Alpine Speakers so i figured maybe getting the Type X Sub as well for 500$

opinions needed and appreciated

just remember that if you put a sub in stock location it has to be a free air sub. that will not be best of the best upgrade the reason why everything rattles is no dynomat. search and you will find the way.

It is possible to fit a 12"er in there. I have seen some photos of one. However this did involve quite alot of cutting from memory, then on top of that you have to make a whole new parcelshelf cover as well. i have a 10" jaycar sub in mine and it fits under the stock cover after a little modding. The shape of the sides of the sub will dictate how much you have to cut.
As for sub choice i cant help you there, sorrry.

I would say the 10" is the largest to go safely. You probably could do a 12" but its gonna be real tight. Plus, a baffle willdefinately be needed for that. I have a 10" JL IB4 (discontinued now), but you do sometimes see it on ebay or here in the classifides. Also Image Dynamics, and Elemental Design has 10" free airs that people have used.

The mounting depth of TypeX subs are too deep to fit in the stock location, I think it would hit the gas tank.


I run 2 Typex subs in another car. They hit REALLY hard BTW

i have searched

dynomat has many downs itself

i read that the concrete in the dynomat when its hot can make ur car smell like asphalt when its hot outside (not good in Georgia)

it weighs an assload

and those subs rattle jus bc they are plain junk lol

but good to hear the type x's hit hard though
i'm leaning on those type x 10" ers, my only question now is though do you think it will hit hard enough???

one 10? i mean i don't want something ridiculous but i want it to be known when i pull up at a stop light

also doing more then one sub in the trunk is something i want to avoid to save space

i got the same question as you lol, also awaiting responses... there was something about how if u get a free air to drop in the stock sc400 deck u have to zip tie it in or somethin like that, im not sure

the 12's are about 10" tall...that would be an eye sore....plus they dont even work free-air.

The amp is so big that it makes the 12's look like 8's but it has a modified power source and pushing close to 4k to the subs. It sounds like nothing ive heard in a 'normal' street car setup.



If you build a (10") box to spec, it will sound as good as 2 10's @ half the space.

My brother has a 10" RF P3 sub in his Eclipse with 300 watts on it - sounds beautiful and will definitely get attention in the cars around at stoplights...

I have a single JL 13w1 in my SC and same thing but only on 150 watts... Done right in a nice ported box, you don't need a lot of power to have bass... Box design is 80% of it... A crappy sub in a great box will outperform a good sub in a ****ty box any day...
