Help! Factory Nav error screen!
I'm posting on this forum hoping some has had the same problem and had been able to resolve it.
HELP!
My wife turned on her car several weeks ago and this screen appeared instead of her navigation system.
She has a 2005 Avalon Limited. After getting conflicting answers from our dealership and Toyota corporate, the answer I was given was this as relayed from Denso (who OEMs it to Toyota):
The only way for this to appear is through a hidden service menu and the instructions are posted on the internet. Thus, they will not fix it and I can replace the NAV ECU for $2500!
I couldn't believe that Toyota would be strong armed by an OEM supplier like this and not stand behind their warranty.
To me it looks like a PC that doesn't have windows loaded. i.e. I need the navigation operating system re-loaded. I suspect there is a factory program disc that is used when the car is manufactured and it can be re-loaded. The dealer tried a different map DVD and I tried the one from my Solara NAV system.
For reference, the Avalon NAV is NOT a touch screen as it uses physical control buttons located below the radio. The NAV ECU is located in the trunk on the left side. The dealer also told me that this is a 3rd generation system and can not be reset. I have tried disconnecting all the cables to the ECU and leaving them removed for several hours with no luck.
I would be eternally grateful to anyone that could help me out with this problem.
Thanks in advance.
David

i got exactly the same issue!! I took apart the navi ecu, didnt find any reset buttons in there. I had it comletely diconnected for almost a week, didnt help.
On saturday I am going to disconect the backup supply for a few minutes and then we will see what happens.
Looks like there is no fix for this problem otherwise.
Let me know if you find a fix!!

David, did you update the Nav disk at all BEFORE this happened? I've seen a similar issue when someone bought an ebay Nav upgrade and it was the wrong one.

No, I didn't try a map upgrade on this navigation system. It's still has the origional 4.x version the car was delivered with back in 2005. Has anyone reported a way to fix this that you are aware? I would suspect that the manufacturer has access to the "boot disk" for the unit in order to re-program the nav. but my dealer is clueless. Is there a specific Lexus model that uses the same in trunk/underseat ECU like mine that doesn't have a touch screen? This might help me find others that have experienced this problem.
Thanks.

I had read that "how to" right after the news from the dealer came down but his nav system physically is different than mine.
Any other suggestions are gratuitously accepted.

for Avalon, this might help
http://www.siennaclub.org/forum/inde...0&#entry140973
might not help for SC430 though since i dont think theres a LOAD button on the SC430
a new disc might help but its best to borrow one from a friend to test it out
