What's MORE ridiculous then ........

Vais Technology SoundLinQ $299
~ it requires a $200 iPod (which you don't want to buy)
~ OH SNAP it is not compatible with your Gen3 Nav http://www.vaistech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57

Phatbox 40G $699
~ plus some serious custom install money but I'm sure it could be done

Kenwood Music Keg
~ ummm VAPORWARE

Fm Modulator or Tape Adaptor
~ too ghetto for your taste

Pioneer AVIC-D3 $900 (street price)
~ $50 Double DIN Install Kit (matches factory dash)
~ seamless iPod integration
~ DVD Navigation system

I dont think your Lexus Nav can do the following:
~ DVD Playback
~ Bluetooth ready
~ XM Ready
~ Sirius Ready
~ Gauge Outputs (Voltage, Clock, Direction, Slope, Acceleration, Side Acceleration, Angular Velocity)
~ BackUp/Rear View Camera capable

BTW I hope your Lexus Nav is updated because you CANNOT just pop in the latest update to get all the new POIs. Lexus designed the system so that you are REQUIRED to do each incremental update to become current. So I hope you have some ca$h for all those DVDs. AFAIK you can update the AVIS series GPS/Nav with any of the DVD sets released by Pioneer.

CN:
$300 for iPod + tape adapter = no controls or text on head unit
$699 + custom install charges = Phatbox = unkown text on Lexus Nav Display
$900 + 50 + install = AVIC-D3 = fully integrated audio system

what about all of the other features that are controlled via the factory nav such as climate

Without having to spend a lot of $$$, do you guys favor a FM transmitter or a tape adapter for the ipod? Stuck between rock and hard place.

That's not true, you don't have to get incremental updates. I know I jumped from 2001 DvD to the 2005 ver with no problem. Anyway I have Viastech system, caught the groupbuy. No it don't display text but I mounted my Ipod so I can see what's playing. I love it. Even put one in my wife GX470, She loves it. It's Good luck on your search.

THe apple store sells a good tape adapter, but its not as good as music from the CD-changer.
