Default Best Faceplate for GS400?

OK... Dynaudio's are in, JL sub is in, Alpine amp is in, next step is the headunit and navigation to replace my Premium factory headunit.

I'm leaning heavily towards the new Kenwood single CD/DVD touchscreen model, with a new changer in the glovebox and nav in the trunk.

My question: I want the faceplate / bezel to match the look, feel and color of factory faceplate. I've been talking to some of the installers and they recommended I ask about three brands and see if anyone has used them, or if there are other ideas...

1) American International

2) Scosche

3) Metra (turns out they don't make a GS400 kit after looking in their catalog, so scratch this one)

Suggestions anyone?

No one makes a kit for the GS series lexus that I know of. You're pretty much going to have to make one.

What have other folks who have aftermarket Nav (I know several have Alpine) done for the bezel?

If you fabricated one, has anybody done one that you think is a near-perfect match?

Lightbulb Metra Option

Dave - I used a Metra kit for the late model Ford Mustang ( yeah, I hear the abuse coming now!! ) to mount my CVA/DVA combo. Then I just made a face plate out of plexiglas & painted it to match the rest of the dash. It's just a press-fit around the components but I trimmed it tight so it doesn't move.

I also did mine in plexiglass...however...because I was rather inept with the dremel..the inner edges around the cva and dva cutout looked less than perfect (to put it mildly)

I got a brushed aluminum ABS laminated sheet from www.selectproducts.com and trimmed it so it looks perfect. It's only 1/16 inch so you can cut it with a knife. I placed this over my plexiglass using the plexiglass as the base since the plastic was too thin on its own...it's real tight in there also so it won't budge...

I thought the brushed aluminum looked cool but it looks real bad with my tan interior ...I ended up spray painting over it with black metallic paint from home depot...much better but it still looks kinda weird....I can't seem to find the right paint color for it...still searching....

Thumbs up Paint Shop

Amlin - Just take your stock radio to your local automotive paint supply store. They'll be able to match the color exactly - that's what I did & then sprayed it on. Actually, I used some leather trim ( to keep the texture of the interior consistant ) & used a leather dye that the paint shop mixed for me. After 2 years it's still a perfect match ( hasn't faded or worn any ). Just an option.

i had a shop do mine in plexiglass (only thing i didn't do myself) and i had plans of painting it but it is currently just black plexiglass for the faceplate. i think it looks ok and kinda matches the plastic from the Alpine...

for you guys who painted, did you sand down the plexiglass or just paint right over it? it seems that the smooth plexiglass would hold the paint on there...
