ES300JAX

Went to the Lexus dealership today to install a cd changer in my es300. I was told the unit I had was from a 1998 es300 and wouldn't fit my 1997 model. I was under the impression that all es300 models 97-01 shared same parts. Does anyone know the difference as it relates to the CD changer for this model? Just curious. Thanks.

all pioneer made pioneer system changers part number 86270-33040 1997 to 2001 are compatible. so if you have that part numgber the dealer is wrong.............................................................................
what i suspect is your problem is that there is a pioneer made nakamichi system changer part number 86270-33060 which fit 1998 to 2001 es300 nakamichi radios which are not compatible with the pioneer system radios with p1712 on the radio casette flap door. so unsuspcting buyers get sold nakamichi system pioneer made changers by knowing sellers. so buyers of cd changers need to do thier homework on which cd changer part number fits their es300. an easy way to tell visually is that the nakamichi changer has blue square dsp port next to the 12 pin connctor. that is how the sound travels on nak system changer to the nak es300 headunit. if you plug in a nak changer the changer will show disc and track on a non nak es300 headunit but no sound is present.
