if you've upgraded your 2nd generation GS stereo...
i've been searching and reading for about 30 mins now, but i'm not finding anything exactly what i want. i had a gs4 that i totalled. it had the nak. i'm about to buy another gs4 with nav. i don't know how substantial of a sound quality decrease there will be, but i'm assuming i'm gonna want to upgrade to nak(or better) type sound. if found this post below, which pretty much sums up what i want to do. this guy didn't get a response. hope i don't suffer the same fate.
"I've got a 2000 GS400 with the pioneer stereo integrated with the navigation system (older hard drive kind). I love music and good sound quality and I've considered upgrading my stereo on a couple of occasions. But since the stock head unit can't really be replaced I don't think because of integration with the nav system, I'm wondering what I can expect in terms of sound quality improvement.
So I know I can get better speakers and sub and a better amp I guess (although can the stock amp really be bypassed?), but I'm concerned about whether after all that work I'll really end up with a system that sounds better overall
Comments especially from those that have done such an upgrade would be much appreciated."

yes the stock amp is bypassable. But you will need to install an aftermarket amp to run the aftermarket speaker if that's what you want to do. I've upgraded all my stock speakers and sub and installed a 5 channel amp. The sound quality improved significant.

i have a 98 GS4 with Nav... and i pretty much replaced the entire sound system, with acception of the NAV unit. The sound is very nice, and the functionality of the NAV is still perfect. So i keep the stock look, with a sound system that well exceeds the factory system.
