Default 2003 GS300 - OEM Antenna w/ aftermarket radio???

I've searched guys, but no definite answer. We all know the there is a diversity antenna system on our cars, but... I hooked up the standard antenna wire, leaving the smaller connector taped off. Reception in my car is not good. No even half as good as the OEM diversity setup. To add even more insult, when I turn on my rear defroster, my reception gets worse! I guess due to the antenna being on the rear glass so close to the defroster lines.

1. Is there an antenna adapter that combines the 2 OEM antenna plugs into 1?

2. Is the diversity system externally powered? Should I be giving a wire behind the radio 12v?

Most of you guys are all saying all you did was use the standard size male plug from behind the radio and your reception is fine? Well, mine sucks pretty much... any help is appreciated. Thanks.
