Default They arrived.Time to roll up the sleeves for the DIY :)

just got these delivered. going to hook them up with an alpine v12 5channel amp which is currently running the stock speakers.
i got two subs ;the kicker c10s at a nice price but only needed one.iwant to drop it as a free air sub in place of the stock 10"sub. But if it does not sound right, i'll just get a box and use both.
what do you guys think?
Eclipse AVN 5496 + Infinity Reference 6.5 components for front + Infinity Reference 6.5 coaxials for rear+ either 1 Kicker c10 comp in free air application OR 2 Kicker c10 comp in box in trunk.
BTW, if the speakers are connected in a box and it has one outlet like most boxes do, since my amp's 5th channel will be giving off 150watts RMS, will they both be getting 75watts each or getting 150watts each? or does it depend on how i wire up the subs together in the box?

According to Kicker if you use those Comps in a free air application then you should only run half the RMS watts they're rated for. I believe those are 300w RMS, so they say you should only run 150 watts.

i know. the RMS for the subs are 150watts. what i want to know is whether my amp watts will get split between the two subs or they will both get 150 watts.
in other words, when i hook up the two subs in a box, does the watts split between the two subs or do they both get equal amounts.

amp 150= 75watts 1st sub + 75 watts 2nd sub
OR
amp 150= 150watts 1st sub + 150watts 2nd sub.

forget the specs. i ran 3 12's freeair in the rear deck with about 1200 watts clean to them and they never complained once. hit them with all the power you can. freeairs need more power anyway. they have a very stiff suspension and are not very compliant. good luck

Yes. The wattage is split between the two subs in equal amounts. How much is capable of going to each sub? Did you get 4 ohm or 8 ohm subs? What is your amps RMS output into 4 ohms/2 ohms? Are you going to wire the subs in parallel or series?

Wrong. Even with a high Qms parameter (stiff suspension), there is still no air spring in the enclosure to control cone movement. In the graph below, you will see that the Kicker C10 only needs 50 watts of power to reach full excursion at 33hz when mounted in an IB configuration.

If you want to read more on infinite baffle subs, I have posted details in this thread and this thread.

You didn't specify the exact model number of the Alpine amp the the specs of the few I looked up all say that the 5th channel will run a 2 ohms. So connect your pair of 4 ohm subs in parallel.
