Lexus Key is it chipped?
Hi,
I'm new to this forum, been on for a while searching through the forum.
Just picking up whatever I can about the car.
Next weekend I would like to install an auto starter.
But the only problem is I only have one key to the car.
So what I would like to know is, is there a chip
in the key of the car? That will prevent it from
starting without a bypass, and the only way to bypass
that is with an extra key inside the car.
Also beside the dealer ship, anywhere else I can get
an extra key made? Thanks.
Its a 1992 SC300.

There is no chip (transponder) in the key for your car. It is a mechanical system without the electronics. You do not need an extra key for the starter to work. However you should get an extra key just in case you loose the one you have. check out http://www.sparecarkeys.com for your extra key.
