I don't believe option 1 will work here - there is no external amp (except for the subwoofer) - the speakers are powered directly from the head unit in this stock installation.
I need to take over the circuitry that supports the cassette deck and get straight into the inboard pre-amp/amp...

there is not external amp on the SC aside from the suboofer amp on the base models.
therefore, you cant intercept a preamplified signal because there ISNT one, the amplifier is inside the headunit. taking over the tape deck is possible, but ridiculously time consuming and not very cost effective. PLUS youd have to somehow find the actual schematics used in designing and manufacturing the headunit.
