I did a search of the SC forums, and couldn't find a post that definitively indicates whether or not it's possible to hard wire an iPod directly into a Pioneer head unit (without the usual FM or cassette solution)?
If it's possible, please let me know how it would be done.
Thanks!

that ONLY works if you have a CD player. My unit is a Pioneer head that only has a cassette player, not the CD.
I'm hoping that there is a way to do it with my stock unit...
Thanks.

Well that is not a SC headunit. However, the base Pioneer system did not have CD, nor did it have a subwoofer amp. Only the premium system had CD and sub amp. I remember the premium system as an option I took when I bought the car. The buttons however are the same as in that picture, AM, FM1, FM2 and tape.

Wow, you're right, although it's being presented on eBoy as the real deal. T0ked is correct, though, the buttons are correct.
Any other thoughts about whether I could get someone who has some hardware knowledge to hard wire something into this, perhaps sacrificing the cassette mechanism? I have one of those units that eject any non-cassette you place in the bay.
Thanks in advance for any additional thoughts...

I figured out how to do it--
You would need to wire a cable into the preamp level inputs that feed the 4 ch amp--
Nextly, you need to feed the acc+ (remote) lead a 12v signal to kick on the amp, via a toggle-- very easy mod, but it will leave one problem unsolved that you can fix if you're creative--
You won't have sub signal from your head unit since it won't be on, but if you did go to aftermarket amps, this would be easy to achieve-- just by triggering them both through the toggle--
Not that difficult to do, you would just control the vol level with your ipod, and it would act as the head unit-- while leaving the actual head unit off.
The other more difficult method would be to reverse engineer the tape deck logic, and wire your signal in there, but you'd have to bypass the logic circuitry that looks for a tape, and even looks for signal from the tape, else it will revert back to fm or cd, wherever it was previously set.
This may not be as hard as it sounds, but would take a bit of electronics savvy, as you'd be cracking the case and diving into the circuitry.
Trust that this method could be done, and wouldn't be difficult. We're not dealing with nano-physics here.

Thanks, MJHSC400!
Now, I just need to find a good electrical engineer who can work on car head units.
I knew there had to be way...

I guess you missed option 1-- it's real easy to just flip a turn on switch to power up the amps-- especially if you are using aftermarket amps --
Then all it needs is signal (power + signal-- see a trend there??)
