SC 400 speaker replacment
Is it worth tosing the factory enclosures in the door to try and fit larger 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 " speakers on a baffle board or should I keep the factory enclosure that is sealed with a port hole and put in some 4". I just want something that sounds a little better than factory with out having to spend an arm and a leg. I was looking at the rockford Q or x series or the polk ex series, Any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks.

I'm also lookig for speakers now.
I was thinkin of MB Quart Q Series but then instead of spending $300-500, I might just get decent one, around $100-200. (I wanna install alarm system later)
polk ex series sound good to me. I wanna get 5 1/4 and try to make my own enclosur. (btw, how to make custom encloser?)
any other recommend speakers?
"I just want something that sounds a little better than factory" me too, I wanna get good sound but not much $$.

I have used the ADS 4" component system as replacement with excellent results with my Nak. You will need to re-fit the tweeters as the factory ones are specific to the car. I actually used some very powerfull epoxy to set them in place. There is also some modifications needed to the 4" mounting areas because the screw locations are slightly different. I mounted the crossover network inside the baffle boxes.
Don't throw away the old tweeters. They can be used in the rear if you are clever. I fitted the rear with Dynaudio 150's (with a cutting of the rear deck,) and used the tweeters between the woofer and the rears. You have to remove some of the press-board to allow the sound to pass through. I used Radio Shack 2 channel crossovers to set the frequencies to my tastes. All in all it was a pretty good upgrade, however, I still say Dynaudio speakers are over-rated.
I have 6 months of trouble-free listening since I completed the project. Looks completely stock.
