Question Size of Gs 400 Stock Speakers

What size are the stock Pioneer door speakers? Five and a half or six and a half? I am looking to upgrade and need as much details as possible: can I leave the head unit? What power new amp should be? e.t.c. Thank you.....

Talking Quick Answers

Paul - 4" door drivers & 10" sub. Yes, U can retain your factory headunit with aftermarket amps by choosing either a amp with speaker level inputs or wiring in a line level convertor. The amp choice is up to U - lots of good "hands-on" experience with different brands shared by the Members as Nav mentioned. Just surf around the site or wait for Percy's book.

Someone told me that if I leave a stock head unit and install aftermarket amp and speakers that it will not produce a good and clean sound. Something has to do with all the preamped equipment and not enough power of the head unit. Is this true?

Default Not IMO & IME

Paul - The headunit's not really a active component. The GS uses an external amp located in the passenger's kickpanel area so by using either LLC's or amps with speaker level inputs, U'll be bypassing that bottleneck. Yes, I'd imagine that the Lexus head probably only put out a 1 volt line level voltage so the signal won't be as clean as if U used an afetrmarket unit with a higher power like one of the Alpine's with 4 VDC output. Still, the biggest difference will come from the swapped speakers & bigger amps, at least to the ear.
