simple logic? but i don't know

In his example, they still function. They just receive less power since it is coming from the head unit. The rear speakers are only needed for fill (or not needed at all). You want the majority of your sound coming from the front speakers. That's the soundstage that everyone talks about. You don't go to a concert and then listen with your back to the stage.
Again, you are losing your stereo separation and creating a mono signal for your front speakers. It will sound like crap.
So your speakers are rated at 90w RMS and you want to be able to "feed" them that. The RMS rating is an almost useless number. That's how much power they can take without the voice coil melting. Also, the difference between 50w and 90w is about 2dB and that doesn't take into account thermal compression. As you push more power to your speaker, it heats up and becomes less efficient.
Either leave it alone or make smart upgrades that don't mess with your soundstage or stereo separation.
