Which sub has the 28 mm xmxax? And you are using the Kappa Perfect in your SC?

TC-2000 is 28mm XMAX

I'm using a Perfect 12.1 I picked up on the latest Crutchfield sale for $189 a pair shipped-- split the deal with a buddy-- we both have the same MTX 1500dx amp also-- we paid $250 shipped for the pair of amps also-

(950w RMS @ .8%THD class D monoblock for $125 shipped= nice-- they never even get hot running 4ohm at 475~rms)

What do you think of this sub?

http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=34

THe TC sounds subs look great on paper, but you said so yourself, a 12" with the same power will be able to move much more air. This eD sub requires .5cuFT, and the mounting depth is just perfect for me. It also handles 500W RMS, so I might be able to get away with just one sub.

The other option I was considering was using 3 10" eD SQ10 subs. One in the enclosure I posted, and the other two would sit in fiberglass enclosures on either side of the trunk, and the whole setup would be powered by about 750WRMS.

What do you think will sound better? Ofcourse, I could always go with a 12" and 2 10" if the single sub still isn't enough.

That's still a 10" sub. Seems like I should wait for that JL thinline sub to come out.

The 13kv.2 and 13ov.2 are both 12" models. But again, you have to deal with the small box issue.

Have you looked at the 10" OEM from TC Sounds or the 12" TC-3000? Both can work well in a small box but the mounting depth may be a factor. I can personally say that the 3K series from TC is great. I'm running a pair of 15's in my home theater powered by a 2,400w amp. My search for the ultimate bass is very close.

That 10" OEM looks monstrous.. it has a 9" mounting depth! That's almost its diameter. I'm thinking about that one as well as the Elemental Designs 11Ov.2

When looking at sub specifications, I often see a spec called "SPL" thats usually in the range of something like 85dB. Is this a measure of the efficiency of the sub? What does this refer to and what does it mean quantitavely?

sound pressure level, used as a gauge to a sub's "loudness".

when u hear guys saying they have SPL setups or SQ setups, their referring to DB drags/system loudness vs. sound quality setups.

SPL in terms of a subs specs states it's output with 1w at 1m distance-- usually at 1000hz if I remember correctly-- but I could be wrong on the frequency --

A sub with a 90db efficiency is considered pretty efficient-- and every 3db is considered to be twice as loud, which requires 2x the power to get there as well--

Most subs today are in the 88~db range-- pretty nominal--

I'm seriously thinking you should install two sq10's in that enclosure, as they will work with .3 each-- you'd just have to raise them up a bit--

BUT-- that 110v.2 would get loud-- don't mistake that 10 for being weak-- if you just want some decent output you'll get it --

A TC 10" sub with a decent xmax, like 24 or 28mm would get as loud as my perfect 12 no doubt, and I would bet that would be loud enough for you-- I got $10 that says so--

Actually, 3db is just a noticable change in sound caused by doubling the input power. "Twice as loud" is usually considered to be 10db since the decible scale is logrithmic. Here's one of about 100,000 sites on this subject - link.

Thanks for the help guys. Its definitely between the 11Ov.2 which seems like a great choice, especially becuase it only wants .5 cuFT, so I can installed it recessed/flushed.. and one of the TC sounds subs. Those things are insane. its really a choice of how I want the installation to be.. wether Ican live with the sub being raised in the middle.

When I figure it out and get it installed, I will surely post pics

I've tried sealed boxes with low power and it just doesn't cut it IMO. With that big gas tank in the way, and metal behind the rear seats, the bass can barely get through.
Ever consider building a false wall and an enclosure ported into the 8'' factory sub hole? You'll be able to get some more output and the setup will look real clean as well.
