touch the info button on the lower right, then go into the system check it should display your GPS signal, your speed, whether it's studying your speed pulse as well as if your parking brake is engaged. which if you have grounded it it will always say the parking brake is engaged.

When i hit the info button, there is no "system check" button there...

does it bring up the menu where you can select settings, esn, system check?

that's where it should be, perhaps try resetting your unit.

that's strange. it should be in that menu.

how well does it do while you're driving? if you have the letters GPS up in the left corner that means that the unit is getting signal.

and technically you don't need to hook up the speed pulse wire

It works decent enough while im driving... GPS does show up.. i know all about the unit, because its made by Fujutsu Ten.. so its the same Denso Nav thats in our lexus'... but the traditional diagnostic mode doesnt work like it does in the lexus...

Im pretty sure its hooked up right, i know i have the correct wires and everything, i just wanted to confirm...

One thing that bugs me though, is thats its SUPER slow when trying to go between screens or entering an address... it turns out it has a burned nav dvd in it.. i dont know if thats affecting it or not..

hey bro,
you got this nav from me
how is the nav treating you. i see you finally got it installed.
i believe the slowness is due to the model. my current one avn 5496 which operates on a hard drive is very fast. but this i believe is not the issue.
the disc is the key i believe. i would try getting a freshly burned copy or a new copy. some members on here can make you one.
hey 88supramki can get u a copy if i recall correctly.
good luck

haha.. yea, i finally got around to installing it.. it looks great, it fits perfect in my fiancee's car. i just ordered a copy of version 2.1 off of ebay.. says it will work in the 2454... I figured it was probably the dvd that was to blame.. My factory nav in my 98 GS is super quick in comparison... i mean, it takes literally 45 seconds sometimes to get from screen to screen.. when i try to enter an address.. i put in the street number, then click street name.. and it takes like 30-45 seconds for it to change screen to let me enter the name. im hoping the new dvd helps out.. i noticed the one that was in the unit was a DVD+RDL 2.4x speed dvd... maybe there are faster ones i can use?

im also still kinda stuck tryin to get into the diagnostic mode..

Well.. i copied the already burned dvd that was in the unit, but i copied it onto a Sony dvd instead of the no-name brand that was in there. It seems to have helped a little. Its a bit quicker. I have a version 2.1 dvd on its way, and ill probably have to copy that one onto a Sony dvd as well.. <crossing fingers>

If it's anything like the Alpine Nav, it doesn't like copies of DVDs - the home brew type. The unit probably is only happy with an original stamped DVD that's not burned on a consumer burner. The drive they use in these things is probably not tolerant of mismatches between the burner and itself.

actually Eclipse navis respond quite well to copied navigation discs.

it could be the quality of the disc, or it could be that there was an issue during the burning process.

Its been fairly flawless since i re-copied the dvd that was in there.. basically went from a no-name brand dvd, to a sony dvd... but i still have a new version 2.1 dvd on the way...

yes, but making a copy of a copy is not the same as a copy from the original.

yea i know.. but the quality of the dvd itself can be correctly slightly when you copy it with a quality burner that can correct little errors... the lens in my computer is much higher quality than the one in the eclipse unit... i cant explain it.. but the speed increased when i put the new dvd in...
