How good of a sound quality do you get with them? Did you have to change any of the factory wiring or was it all plug and play for the interior speakers?

Just picked up a JL Audio IB4 Sub. I think I have an MTX Audio 600 Watt sub around here (the newer one) that my brother is gonna give me since he just wrecked his car. I'm debating whether or not to change everything out or if I should just swap out th sub and amp. I think I have an extra deck lying around. So my inclination is to maybe wait till I can get some interior speaker upgrades and see about having everything done at once. Maybe later I'll come back and add an amp to the interior speakers too, I heard that helps out for sound quality.

If you have a nak system and it still works-- as long as the IB4 is a 4 ohm sub it may work fine on the Nak sub amp until you can get another amp with more power--

LOL well I highly doubt I'm the one to ask about that. I know NOTHING about doing stereo work. That's why I just hit the forums and ask everyone elses opinion. I can try and find out though. Otherwise I'll have to see if I can slide that in there till I can swap out for another, unless my brother lets me keep his.

I was basically stating that you should be able to replace your stock sub with teh IB4 and use the existing amp with no problem--

I'd just listen closely for distortion at high volumes, if it's too bad cut the bass down a bit to keep from hurting the IB4 if you do plan on keeping it for you entertainment pleasure--

Okay that sounds good. That means I should be able to go ahead and set it up as soon as I get it. I'll still eventually swap my amps, but I suppose as long as it still hits I don't have to be in as big of a hurry as I thought I'd be.

Yeah I suppose that would be a very good piece of advice. LOL I'm not interested in losing it as soon as I get it. That'd suck. I suppose from here I can just continue to make modifications as opportunities present themselves. I'm not home much so I can only really work on it during the few days I have to myself.

Excellent sound quality! All plug and play (except for making custom baffles for the rear and an adapter for the door enclosures). I wasn't building any kind of super high-end or cometition setup, so the original wiring was fine for my needs.

Like MJH said, the IB4 runs fine off the stock amp. It can definately use a little more power, but it is acceptable off the stock amp. Just don't expect to be rattling your rearview mirror off with that configuration. Just wont happen.

yeah well I have another amp in the works to go with it. I think my brother said it's a 600 watt amp by MTX. He used it to power his Alpine Type R. I'm hoping that should be a decent enough amp to get the sound I'm looking for. After that I'll be looking into some new interior speakers. I just want everything working before I start doing my major mods. Which reminds me I still have to figure out what I'm doing about my CD changer. It was giving me the error codes before when I tried to play it, then it just locked my case in the bottom of the deck and it won't come back up. Not sure how to troubleshoot that one.

Anyone happen to know how hard it'll be to cut that hole so I can fit the 12" in there? I've heard accessing that rear deck lid can be a pain to do. I'm wondering if maybe I should see if I can find a shop who can do it for me or if it'll be something I can do in my garage with some spare time. Any suggestions?
