Default So I picked up this beast this past Friday [PICS - TC Sounds TC-9 12" subwoofer ]

Just a few quick and dirty pics

Beautiful just beautiful!!

Check out the huge motor assembly on this thing

I am thoroughly impressed by the quality of this sub. The build and materials and top notch.

I haven't installed it as of yet because I still need to build an enclosure. Currently, I am still debating on whether to go ported or sealed. Anyhow, with whichever route I choose to go, I'll be sure to keep you guys posted

Robert J was saying they have a really flat response--- That would make me think you could get away with running it ported--

If you port it it will ratlle your car though-- given enough power-- It will probably rattle sealed too though--

Easy, small sealed with a TON of power behind it

I'd go sealed in a 1cf to 1.4cf box. I like the additional sensitivity as well as the sound of a low Q alignment.

How much pwoer are you going to run to it? Could I run one of these in a 1-ohm configuration with 600W to it, and have it sound good?

A ported tuned low enough will have similar response to a sealed while having better power handling, cooling, and cone control-

I threw it in a sealed enlcosure that's roughly 1.5 cu ft. just to test it out. We stuck it in my friend's car that had two Stage 2 Rockford Fosgate 12"s in seperate enclosures. In contrast to those subs, there's no contest. The TC-9 is totally on a different level. For starters, the low-end extension on this baby is just phenomenal! I was hearing and feeling bass lines I couldn't hear with the Punches. It's output was considerably higher than that of the two Punches. The bass lines were taut, controlled and sounded more refined where as the Punches seemed to muddy up the bass and get boomy. The TC-9 would belt out the same bass line with a controlled rumble at higher output. With the TC-9 it was much easier to differentiate the different tones as well. Needless to say, I'm very impressed with the preliminary testing of this sub.

Since it's a 4 ohm DVC (dual voice coil) model, I think the lowest you'd be able to drop the impedance is to 2 ohms. Although, I imagine that if you put 600 watts to it'd sound awesome. The only reason I say that is because when I tested it, I was only using a 300 watt Pheonix Gold amp and it was kickin' already

Yeah, I've known that fella since jr high/middle school. Cool catt, it's because of him that I started to get into car audio again. I sat in his car once and listened to it, and it left me in awe. I was like, 'this is what a car audio' system should sound like - Powerul and balanced! Damn him and his IDMAX, fancy imported speakers and amps that no one has ever heard of hahaha

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having a ported enclosure if it wasn't so big. The specs for a ported enclosure is almost twice of that of a sealed and I really don't want to give up much trunk space, so I think I'm going to stick with sealed for now
