Default 2nd gen GS: midrange not getting power

I have a 1998 GS400 with the Nakamichi system.
I thought my front driver's side midranges were blown so I got a baffle board, 6.5" woofers, and just tried to install them on the door.

I plugged in the connector thinking the heavens will sing....

But they didn't. Sounded more like...S*** for the lack of better word. midranges were all fuzzy, and the tweeter seemed like it was getting more power than the woofers.

Now I'm lost, I thought a new set of woofers would fix, but I dunno what it is.

Bad ground?
Should I rewire from my headunits to the speakers?
Or is the system between the woofer and tweeters bad??

Help me out audio gurus, I am lost...

Your replacement speakers were probably a different impedance than the factory ones. To do it right, you either need a better match for the factory speaker, or you need to gut the whole system and do it differently, which is not easy or trivial.

It's possible that you have a bad component in the amp, or it could be a host of other things. Best bet might be to get with someone that knows his way around debugging these things step by step. One thing you could try is to take the enclosure out of the pass side door and try it on the driver side. That will probably tell you whether it is the amp/wiring or the speaker/enclosure.

its definitly not the speaker itself b/c the midrange on the passenger side works when I plug it in the drivers side...

I'm thinking its the amp too...>_<. any other suggestions?

what are u saying??? if you plugged the pass side speaker or enclosure into the drivers side and it worked, it's then either the drivers side speaker or enclosure, not the amp. Had u plugged in the pass side into the driver side and gotten the same results, THEN it would be the amp or wiring that was the problem.

thats what happened. I tried it with my passenger side (and plugged it into the faulty drivers side), and even tried it with my brand new 6.5" mids...same results.

I really hope its not the wires b/c I dont feel like working out the bugs with all that wiring...

Could I test the amp if I get a multimeter and get ohm/amp reading???

update: drove around for a hour and the front faulty side speaker was sounding perfectly for 5mins, then it started to sound like poop again. The rear faulty side work, which means I think it eliminates the amp out of the problem.

I'm gonna run a wire directly from the amp to the faulty speaker and see what'll happen. If its the wire, I'll have a blast rewiring that POS, NOT!!!
