2GS Front Speaker Depth Problem

Ok guys, I have looked through 1SickLex's 2gs proper installation guide with TwentyTen's, Dave's, Neo's, Enginear's, and many others 2GS sticky threads and also have ran audio searches to no avail.![Sad](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif)
My car is sitting at Al and E's right now. My installer is having a problem installing my front speakers. I have a 1999 GS 300 with stock pioneer.
I was gonna have him put in Focal 165 A1 (base line) 6 1/2 mids with the matching 1 inch TN44 2-way component set. The TN44 went into the stock location no problem, but the 6 1/2, even after I showed them the CL links and they made custome MDF baffles, they claimed the Focal had depth issues and would rub on the glass when the windows rolled down. I told them to make the baffle thicker, and they said that front excursion would become a problem and would rub against the door and speaker mesh. So they want me to go with the Focal 130 A1 component set with the same tweeter but a 5.25 driver or the Polyglass 6 1'2 VSlim (which costs substantially more). They said the K2 and Utopia lines would not fit for sure. My car is due out tommorow, but I haven't decided on my front stage. They said that the depth issue is the only problem. Any help..please????

the Focal mids you speak of are about 2.8" deep
I recently installed a 7" driver (3" deep) with no issues. You should be able to install the focal.
Make the baffle out of 3/4" wood, but have them add a 1/4" ring where the mids mount on top of so that gives you more clearance.
The 7" mid I installed has a ton more excursion than the 6.5" focal mids. There shouldn't be a problem at all. Get your shop back to the drawing boards.
In my car, I have a layer of sound deadener matt, another later of liquid deadener, and finally a layer of ensolite foam. The speaker doesn't hit the panel at all.

Thanks for the info. Anyways, with the front door panels off and the windows down, it seems like there is more and more depth the more you go to the right side of the door (closer to the ends of the doors). These speakers should mount right up using the stock position with mdf baffel? Is there anything they should add to the rear of the speaker magnet to avoid scraping? They are telling me that an excursion clearance ring will not fit once the door panel is mounted back on.
Thanks for the response GSteg.

I have Focal 6.5" polyglass(165v2) in my front doors so your 6.5" axxess(165a1) should fit. I also used mdf to copy the shape of the stock speaker enclosure...also added a spacer for extra clearance. But be careful to make sure it's not too thick because the cone or surround might hit the door panel. The rear I did the same with focal 6.5"(165a1)

No rubbing issues at all. The last thing I want are marks and scratches on my nice 3M tint....
