Question Window antenna & metallic tint?

I have an 2002 ES300 which has the antenna embeded in the rear window & I'm trying to figure out how metallic coated window tint might affect radio reception. In talking to a few installers, they mention if there is a problem it's only w/ AM, which is a problem for me since I like talk radio. Does anyone happen to use Solar Guard or Llumar tint w/ this type of antenna? One suggested their may even be a problem w/ the NAV, but I assume being in the trunk, it should be okay, right?

There is a slight diffrence in my reception after putting the metal based tint on my car. I was also told it was more with AM stations. My tint intefers with FM also(pirate FM stations). I listen to three pirate stations on FM in my area and they barely come in now. The regular stations come in fine though, it could be a wattage thing with the pirate stations I don't know. I have "Formula One" tint on my car it's a LLumar top of the line.

Good Luck

I have used LLumar's metal tint since 1999 and have never had a problem picking up AM radio stations in the San Diego area. Matter of fact I'm going to get my windows tinted today for another car using LLumar.

Just so I'm clear, the 1995 SC has the antenna built into the glass? I can't remember anymore. BTW, have you happen to hear anything about Llumar vs. Solar Guard. I've been using Llumar since 1992 on my cars, but never had the in glass antenna. In talking to a different installer, he's used both and much prefers Solar Guard.

It is not all llumar tints cause fade out of radio stations.......just the ones that contain metal. Formula One is their best line.
