Default are there any good, reliable, real-time vehicle GPS tracking system

are there any good, reliable, real-time vehicle GPS tracking system?

There is no Lo-Jack coverage in my county, or neighboring
counties within a 80-mile radius, according to the Lo-Jack
website and their company rep that I spoke to on the
phone. (or more acurrately, the local police in this
area do not have Lo-Jack capability in any of their police
cars, not yet anyway)

I want something simple to use so I can view my car's
real-time position on a map over the internet. It should
have a battery back-up, in case the thief disconnects
the car battery. (any chance of hooking it up to the
factory alarm system so that it sends me warning when
my car is tempered with?)

The company that makes the system should be reputable
and reliable.

In addition, I believe most GPS tracking systems need
cellular carrier coverage to work. In my area, only Verizon
Wireless and Sprint have near 100% coverage. Nextel
has about 70% coverage. Cingular/AT&T has 40% coverage.
T-Mobile has zero coverage here.

ThankS in advance for any suggestions!

The ones I have seen are from http://www.microtrakgps.com/

Sewell Lexus sells them: http://www.lexus-parts.com/partdetai...bCategoryID=37

Your profile doesn't say anything about your location or car? Are you in the witness protection program? Do you have have a Lexus and does it have an OEM alarm? Do you have insurance for car left.

I'm just a little curious about the reasons for having such a device in a non-commercial vehicle. Do you need to track the movements of a wayward teenager or a wife!

Thanks!

I actually considered MicroTrakGPS, until I saw that company's stock prices.... each share is now worth only 6 pennies as of last week.... with 120 million+ outstanding shares....

Is this a good or bad sign?

What you're looking for really only exists currently for commecial fleets. There are tons of fly by night companies with big claims, but fail to deliver. Usually with the commercial side, you need to lease/purchase a few units before they talk to you...

If you need true real time tracking, you will have to utilize a system that incorporates (GPRS / cellular) technology in order to transmit location data whenever you desire it. Cingular is THE best when it comes to nationwide coverage, they have the largest network, period. On most of the better units, even if you are out of cellular coverage for a while, the unit will store data in a buffer and then dump that data once you get back into coverage.

Good luck...

Unfortunately, Cingular/AT&T has no coverage in more than half of the county where I live. Zero signal at my office buildling.(next to a large shopping mall and interstate)

Default GPS tracking

Check out http://www.lifetrak.net/

They do fleet and business, but also do individual. The Digital GPS system is installed by the Lexus dealer, and a tech. comes out and activiates it.

I'm looking at my car's location now (wife is picking up daughter) it shows her location on a street map or image map.
