Default What speakers are needed for 2nd GS. NEWBIE...

Hi everyone i just wanted to find out what speakers fit in the 2nd gen gs. Im a newbie at this and i know i can probably take out the door panels and find out but im sure we have veterans here that can make my job easier. Also what would be a good recommendation for speakers, amp, and sub if i wanted a decent system that would hold me over for now. Thanks

I realize this is an old post but I need help too. I thought they were like
5.25" or something odd like that. Circuit City told me I needed 6 1/2" so I bought some for the front door only to be told later that I need 4" speakers. Does anyone know??

4 inch rounds up front. 1 inch tweeters, 10 inch sub.

You can fit a 6.5 incher provided you have enough backspace - just make sure the magnet doesn't hit the window as it's coming down. A 1 inch spacer ring is recommended on 1/2 inch mdf baffle board.

You can also go to www.crutchfield.com and configure your ride. It will tell you what size speakers will fit with mod or no modification. Then you can shop accordingly, not necessarily from them. Good luck.

The last time I saw, Crutchfield didn't have any sizes listings for Lexus.

I just went on the site and was able to outfit a 2003 gs430 w/ Nav. It says 4" in the front and rear doors.

The bottom line is this:

2G GS OEM Speaker sizes:
Front: 1" tweeter, 4" midrange
Rear: 4" midrange
Sub: 10" free air

Possible with easy DIY Adaptor Plate:
Front: 5.25 midrange
Rear: 5.25 midrange
Sub: Sub 12"
NOTE: this will require making adapter plates from 1/2" to 1/2" MDF

WoW! About time that they actually had this! I remember asking them in 2002 and they still didn't have Lexus listed at all. They commented that it wasn't a common car to work on.

Times have changed!

You can go further than that! I just made a baffle for my friend. He was able to fit 7" midranges in the door. The main problem most people run into is the depth. We had to hack the door panel just a bit because the cone was hitting the panel. But if we made the baffle any thinner, the back of the magnet would have touched the windows.
