whats a baffle?? *HELP*
ok for the last few weeks i have been searching the board so i can upgrade my sound system. i'm pretty good with sound system and the terms but still pretty new to everything.
I have a first Gen GS and i want to upgrade the speakers. the fronts are 5 1/4 with 3 inch depth. and the rear door is 6 1/2 with 3 inch depth. what i want to know is that can i just buy any 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 inch speakers and put them in there or will i have to customize some stuff. i know the stock speaker is in some sort of plastic box to produce better sound. now here is where my question is. whats a baffle. i have been reading people removing it and other stuff but can someone show me pixs or tell me what i have to do to make my after market speakers fit. i'm planning on getting some MB QUART speakers. also ONE last question. will the MB quart tweeter fit in the stock tweeter housing thanks

Jmai,
I can't help with fitment on your speakers in your 1st gen gs, but I can point you to a post that will give you a picture of what a baffle is. Here's a link --> < link > .
Basically, if you can't fit your MBQs in the stock location you have two choices... either cut the factory enclosures to fit your speakers into them or make custom baffles which will give you both a sealed mounting surface for your aftermarket speakers.

A couple of things. I put a pair of 5.25 MB quartz in my front door, it was a very difficult fit into the enclosure. Another thing I had to do is shave a little of the door panel because there was not enought room between it and the speaker surround. I do not think that 6.5"s would fit in your back door. Yes the tweeter will fit on the factory bracket behind the grill.

With Some Work
Gen1 - Yes, U can fit 6.5's in the rear doors - I used the Diamond Audio Hex series ( 2 3/8" mounting depth ). I even managed to later squeeze a pair of 8" Diamond HEX midbasses ( 2 7/8" depth ) in there later. Still have the Diamond 6.5's in the front doors but couldn't shoehorn a Focal 7" in there - too deep.
