Which Component Speaker is better to get?
#31
Yeah, a system only sounds as good as it's lowest-quality component. The big reason I'm on the 24/192 aspect is because I have a recording rig at home that records in HD and since I spend at least 2 hours a day in my car, I'd like to have an accurate mobile system. I've never really messed with high-end car audio before (I've always been too broke to afford it) so I'm kind of clueless right now. I love my Nakamichi system (just replaced the radio with a IVA-D300) but I hate using a factory amp. Really all the information I have right now is general info on brand reputations, so any input you could offer would be appreciated.

Some of the really old head units are great for SQ.
Clarion DRX9255. Mcintosh MX406, MX4000. Sony CDXC90. Even their older 910 had some decent SQ out of it. Or if you can find the XDP4000X processor, that would be great too. Sony XESZ50 sounded pretty good.
The newer Alpine stuff just disappoints me to no extent. Ride on the name, market them as state of the art and cheap out on the analog output section. Now if you're willing to mod it out, it's an entirely different story!

madmax98, I replaced my blown out Sc speakers with CDT 2-way speakers and they sound great.
I have been using the same pair of CDT ES-620 EuroSports for 4 years in 3 different cars and still love them. Had to get a real pro to get them installed in my GS400 (those big magnets take up a lot of room). If you are spending any kind of $$ on equipment then I highly recommend you pay for a proper installation.....it makes as much difference as anything.

I just bought some CDT components inside my car. But other brands i like are rainbow and focal. sorta to much for my taste hehe. If you get the CDT check out CL51A heard a lot of good things about them.

kinda depends on what you're looking for, but if you don't mind tuning, and spending the money to do it...go with some Image dynamics HLCDs....I have the cd-2 horns and they are amazing. For mids, I matched these with some Seas nextel 7"s in kicks on the floor....they are great speakers together. Took me a month to tune em to where i wanted them though...

+1. For the price point, they are the biggest no-brainer in car audio IMHO.

As long as it's not the Rainbow Reference. I would still love to see a Dynaudio setup go head to head against the RR gear. With the lab measurements, distortion, etc.
But Rainbow Reference never seems to have any REAL data. Also, their crossover networks have quite a bit of patchwork to them. Who the heck uses iron core coils in their xovers? Or small sized caps? Iron core...hysteresis distortion, highly audible.
My vote is still for Dynaudio. Or if you can afford it, their Esotar series. Just simply outstanding.

just to update.....got rid of my CDT Eurosports and upgraded to some Hertz MLK2 components and the MLK3000 sub. I like my "milles". Not many people know anything about them but I don't care.....it is all about what I like in my car.
