When you add a rear deck spoiler to the GS, the spoiler has a brake light incorporated into it. If your GS did not come from the factory with a spoiler, there is also a rear deck "3rd break light" right behine where the sub is mounted.

Most folks don't want 2 "3rd brake lights". This is the process by which to defeat the interior deck light without getting the "brake light out" warning sign in the driver's instrument cluster that happens if you just unplug the rear deck brake light.

Here's a photo of the third rear brakelight with the lens removed. Two nibs (?) hold the lens in place. Press slightly on the back of the plastic frame to free the lens assembly. Much easier to paint or tape off or whatever.
