Default Can you retrofit a 8 ohm driver to act as 16 ohm?

My Mark Levinson Sub woofer is history... I Correct me if I'm wrong but i'v read that the ML Subwoofer and Amp run at 16 ohm on my SC430 2003. Is there any way to wire a 8 ohm rezistor to an 8 ohm subwoofer (lot's of cheaper choices than a single 16 ohm woofer) for a total of 16 ohm without the risk of damaging the amp?

Please let me know!

You'll need a subwoofer with dual 8 ohm voice coils and run it in series...GL finding that.

Other then that, there's no way of converting a 8 ohm woofer to a 16 ohm woofer...at least not that I know of.

The Dayton DVC 12" is one of may subs available in DVC 8 voice coil configuration.

actualy there are alot of subwoofers that are dual 8 ohm, most would be home audio subwoofers. Partsexpress is a good site to check, www.madisound.com has alot more choices. There are ways to wire resistors to make a 8 ohm coil have a 16ohm resistance. I dont know exacally which resistors u would need but it can be done.

"Home audio" and "car audio" labels are just marketing. The Dayton sub I linked to has been used very successfully in car audio installs for years.

You would need an 8 ohm resistor. At least 100W. All it will do is heat up and waste amp power though.

This was intended for a temporary fix. Loss of power is unavoidable.
So the consensus is that the ML amp WILL be safe with an 8 ohm sub and 8 ohm 100W resistor...?!

Where will you find a non-inductive resistor that large?

That's only 20w. It will burn out (flames) if you turn up the volume for any length of time. This is more like what you need - link. I'd go with the 200w model so it won't heat up as much.
