Need help with GS400 Stereo Upgrade
Hi all,
I am thinking of changing the stock Pioneer system. Here's what I want:
Head Unit: simple CD player that plays MP3. It has to have decent amount of power to driver all my midranges.
Mid Range Speaker: the stock size is 4". I'd like to go bigger. Could 5 1/4 fit without the need of a new baffle? I don't mind drilling some new holes. On the other hand, sticking with 4" is fine.
Sub woofer: Stock size 8". I'd like to go bigger with just some minor modifications. Otherwise, please recommended what's a good 8" free air sub that fits.
Amp: just one for the sub since I'm thinking of driving my mid ranges with the head unit.
My budget is around $1000. Please recommend head unit, mid range speakers, sub, and amp. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

Stock sub size is a 10 inch.
You can make custom baffles to fit 6.5 inch speakers. Use a spacer ring to keep the window from hitting the speaker magnet as the window is coming down.
You will be surprised at the sound quality after the changeout.

Found them on ebay. Thanks. I notice that these adaptors do not have the back "pockets" meaning there is no enclosure for the speakers. On the other hand, the OEM baffles, from my understanding, would create a seal box effect (for the smaller size speaker, of course). In a sense, I guess bigger size speakers would be "free air" mounted. I wonder how they sound compared to stock?
Thanks

Good info. What kind of 6.5" do you recommend? Do you drive them with an amp or do you just use the head unit? I also need recommendations on head unit amp (if you have one)?
Thanks
Thanks
