SC430 amp/sub install - Electrical help
So I am an engineer but not the smartest when it comes to electrical engineering. I am planning on installing a aftermarket amp and subs in my sc430, without changing the stock ML headunit. Before i do this i need clarification on if what i plan on doing is actually going to produce better results.
So this is the plan: I would like to keep the stock sub and amp connected just to keep the original stock look, fitment and quality there. But, i can add an amp and a sub. Im thinking of splicing off the signal from the stock amp to the stock sub - basically connecting a line out converter on the output signal from the stock amp (both + and -). Thus this output will have wires (+ and -) going to the stock sub (so that still gets the signal) and wires for the line out converter that then go to the aftermarket amp (using rca cable).
My question - will this work? The aftermarket subs are 4 ohms while the stock sub is 16 ohms and the stock amp is 8 ohms. If i split the signal will this cause distortion. Because i am adding a 4 ohm, will there be enough amps for the stock sub to work as it is right now.
I just have a feeling that it is not as simple as i am making it. Please advise on if this is possible and if it is the smartest way to approach adding subs.
I would assume the easiest solution is to remove the stock sub, but i prefer to have all of them there.
Thanks in advance
